how to cure your no sports scaries

As a girl who has loved sports my whole life and feels great passion for them, I could have never imagined we’d be at a time where sports are on pause. For many, sports pose as a way of coping with the daily ebb and flow of life, while offering a way to escape from reality. As the main source of my happiness, I’ve realized it’s hard to fill the void of no sports. As that void continued to set in, I began to think of ways I could bring sports back, in some way, to my life. Here are my top three ways to cope with the absence of sports during this time.

1. Re-watch old games you love

While it may not be the same as a live game, watching old games is a fun way to bring back the excitement you felt while watching your favorite teams. I especially love to watch games with comebacks, memorable goals, playoff races, etc.  Currently, channels like ESPN have been replaying games from previous years.  We’ve been able to relive the joy we felt when watching the 2015 College World Series and get fired up by rivalries we aren’t seeing play out today.

2. Stay cozy while representing & supporting your team

As much as I miss wearing my favorite jerseys to games and events, I’ve been living in nostalgia in my favorite team’s comfortable loungewear. Your teams’ shop or even brands such as American Eagle have cute and comfortable clothes with your teams’ logo on it. You’ll stay cute and cozy while doubling your wardrobe for the future when we can attend games again.

3. Watch sports movies or documentaries

While you can do this whenever, now is the best time to binge your favorite classic sports movies or documentaries. There are tons of options to choose from and you can find many of them on common streaming services. Feel-good sports movies like Bull Durham, Space Jam, and Major League can transform our moods and make us feel like our season is in full swing. Some can be cheesy, of course, but the often-underlying storylines can inspire us to get through this time. Grab some blankets, make some delicious treats, and pick a film!

It’s a hard time for all of us sports junkies, so finding different ways to incorporate them into our everyday lives can help distract us from the devastating absence of live sports right now. I have found a great passion for sports and without their presence, I’ve realized how down I feel.  But, by incorporating the activities above into my daily life I am starting to feel myself getting back to normal, and for that I’m grateful.
